Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Want to Know.

New to private hibachi? Never heard of us? Good — we wrote these answers for you. If something's still unclear, reach out directly at hello@sogood-hibachi.com.

The Experience
What exactly is SoGood Hibachi? +

SoGood Hibachi is a private hibachi catering service — we are not a restaurant. A professional hibachi chef comes to your home, backyard, patio, or event space in the Los Angeles area and cooks a full meal in front of your guests. Think of it as a restaurant-quality teppanyaki experience, but at your address, on your schedule, with only your group.

What happens during the event — start to finish? +

Your chef arrives, sets up the grill in 10–15 minutes, and gets your guests seated. The show opens with a live fire performance — flames, tricks, and audience interaction. Then cooking begins: each guest's chosen proteins are prepared tableside alongside hibachi fried rice, vegetables, and a side salad. Cold flavored sake is served throughout. From arrival to last plate, expect roughly 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on group size.

How long does the event last? +

For a group of 8–12 guests, plan for 90 minutes including setup. Larger groups of 15–20+ run closer to 2 to 2.5 hours. The chef works at a pace that keeps everyone entertained — not rushed. You're welcome to enjoy the evening at whatever pace feels right after the meal is served.

Is this just for adults, or can kids be part of it? +

Kids love it — the fire show and chef tricks are a highlight for younger guests. Children 12 and under are priced at $32 per child, receive the same full menu, and have sake substituted with a non-alcoholic option. It's a popular choice for family birthday parties and milestone celebrations.

Do you do the onion volcano and fire tricks? +

Yes — the full live fire show is included in every event. Every SoGood Hibachi chef is trained in tableside performance: flames, the onion volcano, egg tricks, utensil flips, and audience interaction. The entertainment is not an add-on — it's the show.

Booking & Payment
How do I book a private hibachi event in Los Angeles? +

Visit sogood-hibachi.com/book-los-angeles, choose your date, enter your event details and LA address, select any add-ons, and pay a $50 deposit. The entire process takes under 5 minutes and you receive instant confirmation. No phone calls, no waiting on a callback.

How far in advance should I book? +

We recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance to guarantee your preferred date, especially for weekends and holidays. That said, we do accommodate last-minute bookings when availability allows — contact us at hello@sogood-hibachi.com and we'll do our best to make it work.

Is the $50 deposit refundable? +

The $50 deposit is used to hold your date and is applied toward your final balance. If you need to reschedule, we'll work with you to find a new date at no extra charge. For cancellations, please contact us as early as possible — the deposit policy depends on how close to the event date the cancellation is made.

When is the balance due and how do I pay? +

The remaining balance is collected on the day of the event — when your chef arrives. We accept all major payment methods. You'll know the exact total before booking is confirmed, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can I change my guest count after booking? +

Yes — guest counts can be adjusted up until 48 hours before the event. Contact us with the updated number and we'll confirm the revised total. Adding guests is easy; reducing below 8 guests is not possible as that is the event minimum.

Is gratuity included in the price? +

Gratuity is not included in the per-person price. An 18–20% tip for your chef is appreciated and is the standard for private chef events. Your chef works hard to put on a great show — it goes a long way.

Food & Menu
What's included in the base price? +

Every guest's base price covers the full experience:

  • Dedicated private hibachi chef + live fire show
  • Choice of 2 proteins per guest (from the standard menu)
  • Hibachi fried rice cooked fresh on the grill
  • Fresh vegetables, side salad, signature sauces
  • Unlimited cold flavored sake throughout the event

Premium protein upgrades (Filet Mignon, Lobster Tail) and add-ons (Gyoza, Edamame, Hibachi Noodles, Mochi Ice Cream) are available at an additional per-person cost.

What are my protein options? +

Standard (included): Chicken, NY Strip Steak, Shrimp, Salmon, Scallops, Tofu

Premium upgrades: Filet Mignon (+$9/person), Lobster Tail (+$15/person)

Each guest independently selects their own 2 proteins — no need for the whole group to agree on one choice.

Do you accommodate vegetarian or vegan guests? +

Absolutely. Tofu is available as a standard protein option at no extra charge. Vegan and vegetarian guests receive the full experience — two tofu selections, hibachi fried rice (made without animal stock), fresh vegetables, salad, and the complete fire show. No one at the table gets a lesser experience.

Can you accommodate food allergies? +

Yes. Please disclose all allergies in detail during the booking process. Our standard menu contains no nuts and no sesame. Gluten-free preparations are available on request. Your chef will be fully briefed on all dietary requirements before arriving. For severe or life-threatening allergies, please contact us directly so we can discuss preparations in detail.

Do you cater to Halal, Kosher, Keto, or Gluten-Free diets? +

Yes — we accommodate Halal, Kosher, Keto, Gluten-Free, and Dairy-Free requirements. Specify your needs at booking and your chef will prepare accordingly. Mixed-diet groups are no problem — we handle each guest's plate individually.

Can I bring my own food, drinks, or cake? +

Yes — this is your event at your home. You're welcome to supply your own beverages, wine, cocktails, or a birthday cake. We bring sake as part of the experience, but supplementing with your own drinks is completely fine. Just let us know in advance if there are any serving logistics to coordinate.

Logistics & Setup
What do I need to provide? +

By default, you provide: tables, chairs, plates, and utensils. That's it. We bring the chef, grill, all food, all ingredients, sauces, sake, cooking equipment, and everything needed for the performance. If you'd prefer we handle the full setup, our optional setup package covers tables, chairs, and full space arrangement for an additional fee.

Can you cook indoors? +

Yes. Indoor events work well with: good ventilation (a window or door open near the cooking area), at least 6 feet of clear space around the grill, and smoke detectors temporarily covered directly above the cooking station. Outdoor is preferred for the full dramatic fire effect, but indoor is absolutely doable and we do it regularly.

How much space does the grill need? +

The grill itself takes up roughly a 4×3 foot footprint. With the chef working around it and guests seated, plan for a 10×12 foot minimum area for comfortable setup. Larger groups need more space — but we've successfully run events in compact LA apartments, small patios, and rooftops. When in doubt, send us your space dimensions and we'll advise.

What if it rains on the day of my outdoor event? +

We monitor weather for every scheduled event. If rain is likely, we'll reach out in advance to discuss options — moving indoors, using a covered outdoor area (like a patio with an overhang), or rescheduling at no additional cost. We don't leave you stranded on the day.

Do you clean up after the event? +

Yes — the chef cleans the grill and breaks down all cooking equipment before leaving. The cooking area will be left clean. We do not clear dinner plates or general guest table cleanup, but your space won't smell like a restaurant kitchen the next morning.

Can you host at an Airbnb, vacation rental, or event venue? +

Yes — we regularly work at Airbnbs, vacation rentals, rooftop terraces, and private event spaces throughout Los Angeles. Just make sure the property allows open-flame cooking. When booking, provide the event address so we can confirm logistics. For rental properties, it's worth checking the rental agreement regarding cooking equipment.

Location & Travel
What areas do you serve in Los Angeles? +

We serve the full greater Los Angeles metro area including West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Brentwood, Culver City, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, and dozens more neighborhoods. We also travel to Orange County (Irvine, Newport Beach, Anaheim, Huntington Beach) and Santa Barbara and Ventura County (Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Westlake Village).

Is there a travel fee? +

Events within the greater LA metro area have no travel surcharge. For events in Orange County, Santa Barbara, or Ventura County, a travel fee of $2 per mile applies from our LA base to your event address. The exact fee is confirmed and agreed upon before your booking is finalized — never a surprise on event day.

My city isn't on the list — can you still come? +

Probably yes. Contact us at hello@sogood-hibachi.com with your city and we'll confirm availability and any applicable travel fee. If we can get there, we will.

Are you based in Los Angeles or Las Vegas? +

SoGood Hibachi started in Las Vegas, where we've completed 100+ five-star private events. We are now actively serving the Los Angeles area with the same chefs, same menu, and same experience. Our reviews reflect events we've delivered — not promises.

Special Events & Groups
Is this good for a birthday party? +

It's one of the most popular uses. The live fire show doubles as the entertainment, dinner is sorted, and the experience is genuinely memorable — guests talk about it afterward. We'll acknowledge the birthday during the show. Bring a cake, set up your own decorations, and we handle everything food and performance related.

Can you do corporate events or team dinners? +

Yes — corporate dinners, client events, and team celebrations are a strong use case. The interactive format breaks the ice naturally and the setup works well at office spaces, rooftop venues, and private homes. Contact us for larger group pricing and scheduling for corporate bookings.

What's the maximum group size you can handle? +

There is no hard maximum. For groups over 20 guests, we bring multiple chefs and grills to ensure everyone is served at the same time and the show remains engaging. For large events of 30, 40, or 50+ guests, contact us in advance so we can plan the setup and staffing accordingly.

Can you do a bachelor or bachelorette party? +

Absolutely — the combination of a private chef, open sake, a fire show, and the relaxed home setting makes it a perfect format for bachelor and bachelorette events. You control the vibe, the playlist, and the evening — we just handle the food and the show.

Do you do holiday parties or seasonal events? +

Yes — Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Hanukkah, Diwali, graduation parties, and more. Holiday weekends book up quickly, so we recommend reserving your date 3–4 weeks in advance for peak periods. The $50 deposit locks in the date the moment you book.
